Nearly 100 metro Detroit area restaurants from over 30 local cities will participate in the twelfth annual “DINE OUT DETROIT” benefit on Friday, June 1st.  Local restaurants will donate 10% of that day’s breakfast, lunch and dinner sales to the Midwest AIDS Prevention Project (MAPP), Michigan’s largest non-profit AIDS education organization.  DINE OUT DETROIT has raised over $250,000 and has gained the support of over 400 restaurants in the last 11 years. June 3           HAIR CUT PROCEEDS BENEFIT AIDS EDUCATION

FLIP SALON TO DONATE DURING PRIDE FESTIVAL

(Ferndale)  For the second year in a row, Flip Salon in downtown Ferndale will cut hair to raise money for HIV/AIDS education during the giant Motor City Pride celebration Sunday June 3rd. Last year, hair stylists and management at the popular salon raised nearly $600 for the Midwest AIDS Prevention Project (MAPP).  During the same day at the pride festival, MAPP staff provide free HIV testing and counseling for persons at risk for AIDS.  Last year two dozen people were tested for the serious disease. Flip is located at 251 W. Nine Mile Road in downtown Ferndale.  Haircuts will be provided on a walk-in basis, and people will then donate any amount for the cut to MAPP.  The hours for the special program are 11 am to 2 pm Sunday June 3rd. “The downtown businesses thrive during this huge festival each year,” said Craig Covey, MAPP CEO, “and they are always supportive of our local charity groups.” “Flip is no exception, and besides helping us out, they provide a cool relaxing respite from the crowds and heat,” he added. The annual Gay pride festival is expected to draw over 40,000 visitors to Ferndale during the weekend of June 1 to 3.  Triangle Foundation organizes the event each year.
